Ecclesiastical Italian Gothic Chair walnut c1600. This superb Gothic walnut chair was used by church dignitaries. The walnut is just delicious. Only walnut that is over 400 years old has this deep rich color. The chair has had some repairs over they years which is to be expected from 17th century furniture. Measures 19 inches to the top of its seat, 23 inches wide, 51 inches to the top of the back. Fine carving detail depicting lions head arms and wooden pin construction.

Chinese Buddhist Stelle stone carving A. D. 557-581. The work of the Northern Chou dynasty which dominated the North China West of the Yellow River between A. D. 557-581 This is based on the columns and on the treatment of the curtain above which indicates western influences. The Northern Chou people were in close contact with the peoples of Central Asia.We have a letter dated October 17 1962 from John A Pope Director of the Freer Gallery of Art at the Smithsonian Institution addressed to our consignor explaining he had talked to the then Leading authority on Chinese sculpture, Professor Osvald Siren about this piece. Professor Osvald Siren gave the above description of this Chinese sculpture. All letters are available to the purchaser of the sculpture. This carving measures 21 inches tall,13 inches wide and 6 and one half inches thick.

Flemish grissaille stained glass roundel, made in the first quarter of the 16th century. This stained glass roundel depicts one scene in a moralistic parable series. It measures 9 and three quarter inches in diameter. The lead frame is a later replacement. For a similar example, please Sotheby's International Price Guide, 1989 to 1990, page 331, item 10. There is also a nearly identical roundel in the Cloisters collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
